Australian Pet Health is at the forefront of pet product development. Utilising new technology and in collaboration with leading researchers and academics, we develop products for the pet industry, including our innovative S.M.A.R.T. Scent™ technology.
Dogs’ noses possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors, compared to 6 million in ours, and the part of a dog's brain devoted to analysing smells is about 40 times greater than ours. Dogs also possess something called neophilia, which means they are attracted to new and exciting odours. In terms of perception, when a human walks into a room, we primarily use our vision to understand our surroundings, whereas a dog will use its sense of smell and vision to understanding what is going on.
Australian Pet Health seeks to improve the health and wellness of all pets, and it has been estimated that a dog's sense of smell is between 1,000 to 10,000 more advanced than that of humans. Therefore the importance of scent-based products to dogs can be recognised. Australian Pet Health is a developer of pet products that satisfy this need in a natural way, including through our original S.M.A.R.T. Scent™ technology and line of scent-related pet products.
Australian Pet Health develops proprietary scents, and we currently hold two active utility patents allowing us to create and develop unique delivery mechanisms to release aromas, which are designed to engage and satisfy a dog's natural instincts. The method of delivery is adaptable and designed to allow pet parents to change the scent of the unit as frequently as they wish, allowing for increased pet satisfaction and extended interaction between pets and their owners.
Dogs use their sense of smell as a method of learning and communication. The simple act of smelling another dog can determine if they are male or female, happy or aggressive, healthy or ill, and what they have eaten recently. When in a new territory, a dog can sniff a tree and determine what other types of dogs have been in the area, and as dog's possess excellent scent memory, they can recognise other dogs that they have not encountered for many years.
